Animated gifs are images that are in separate frames, which give the appearance of motion. You add several pictures together in a row and then the generator produces an animated gif from the images you supply. You can add the animated gifs to your website, email or online advertising. There are several animated gifs online websites available. GifUp, Gickr, GifNinja and Picasion are free animated gif generators. In approximately one minute, you can have an animated gif for your web page.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select the images you wish to animate. Some sites allow you to choose pictures from the Internet through a direct link. GifUp, Gickr and Picasion present a button to search the Flickr website for images. All of the online-animated gif sites present the option to choose pictures from your hard drive. You can download images from several sources including Images, JupiterImages and ClipArt.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Browse" button to add images to your animated gif. Insert the pictures in the correct order for your animation. For example, the first image is the first frame.

  3. Step 3

Indicate the speed rate of the frame. Under the "Speed" option, select "Fast," "Normal" or "Slow." Some websites such as Picasion or Gickr have "Advanced" or "Custom" speed options. GifNinja presents a speed bar that you slide according to the example photo on the page.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Create" or "Make" tab when you finish. A new page will appear with the option of downloading the animated gif. Certain websites such as GifUp offers HTML code to post in blogs or on your website.

Tips & Warnings
  • For an effective animated gif, choose a sequence of pictures that have the same type of background. However, the focus of the picture is different. For example, take several pictures of someone making different faces while sitting in one place.
  • If you use pictures from other resources, be aware of the copyright laws. Some images are not usable on other sites or they must have a credit display.
