Stencils are used to decorate walls, for various craft projects and for paper art. You can use paint, chalk, colored pencils and inks to stencil onto the project of your choice. Winter and summer stencils can include inline roller skates or ice skates. These images may be hard to find at your local craft store. You can make skate stencils using Mylar. You can choose a single skate or a pair of the sporty footwear.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mylar sheet
  • X-acto knife or sharp craft knife
  • Pen or marker
  • Light box (optional)
  • Coloring sheet or clip art
  1. Step 1

Search through your clip art, sports store advertisements or coloring book pages for a line drawn image of ice or roller skates.

  2. Step 2

Place the image on a light box or your work surface.

  3. Step 3

Trace the image on a piece of Mylar. If you have a light box, set the image on the top of it with the Mylar on the top. You will be able to see the image when you turn the light on.

  4. Step 4

Set the Mylar on a cutting surface. Take an X-acto or craft knife and slowly cut out the interior small openings of the design, such as the opening between the skate and blade.

  5. Step 5

Cut the entire skate out of the Mylar sheet with the X-acto or craft knife.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store handmade stencils in envelopes with labels for identification. The envelopes can be stored in binders.
  • Watch your fingers when cutting small pieces of Mylar out of the sheet. Craft knives are extremely sharp.
