How to Make Gift Boxes With Scrapbook Paper
Gift boxes can make or break a present, but you don't want to spend more on the gift box then you do on the present itself. If you are a scrapbooker you may often have left over scraps of paper that you can't find a good use for. You can make your own decorative decoupage gift box using boxes you already have around the house and scrapbook paper.
Things You'll Need
- Cardboard box with lid (such as an old shoe box)
- Scrapbook paper
- Scissors
- Newspaper
- Decoupage glue
- 1-inch craft paint brush

1
Decide on a theme for your box. You might go with a color specific theme, such as brown and blue, or a patterned theme, such as an all striped box. Gather paper based on your theme.
-
2
Decide whether you will be cutting out squares of scrapbook paper, using it as it is, or ripping paper for a creative ripped edge look.

3
Separate the box top from the bottom. Place them on top of your newspaper. Spread the box top and sides with a thin layer of decoupage glue.
-
4
Place the scraps of paper over the glued surface on your box. The layers will overlap. Make sure that some pieces fold over the edge of the lid. Repeat this process on the bottom of the box.
-
5
Allow the box to dry for 1 hour. Then, using your scissors trim the paper that is overlapping off the box.

6
With both parts of the box covered, turn them open side down. Paint another layer of decoupage on top of your box. Allow the box to dry for at least 24 hours. Line with tissue paper, place a gift inside, close the box and tie with a single colored ribbon for a unique gift box the recipient will appreciate.

Tips & Warnings
Use decorative gift boxes to store photos or craft supplies. It is best to start with a square or rectangular cardboard box then move up to the challenge of decorating a round or hexagon box. Boxes can also be decorated with wallpaper, magazine cut-outs or your child's artwork.
