How to Put Golf Clubs in a Bag

An organized golf bag can be a big help on the golf course during the middle of an important match. Instead of searching through a cluttered bag for a club you want, you know exactly where it is when you need it. This allows you to think about the shot at hand instead of trying to figure out where you might have put it.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your woods in the top section of your golf bag. Most golf bags are divide into three sections. The top section is for your wood clubs--all of which are probably metal or composite. However, they are still called woods and the top section is for the driver, three-wood and five-wood. If you have a two- or four-wood, it also goes in this section.

    • 2

Put your long irons in the middle section of your bag. The middle section may be a bit larger than the other two and it holds your three-, four-, five- and six-irons. If you have a one- and/or twp-iron it also goes in the middle section. Few golfers have a two-iron and even fewer have a one-iron because it is so difficult to get positive results from it.

    • 3

Put your short irons in the bottom section. The seven-, eight- and nine-irons along with the pitching wedge and sand wedge go in the bottom section. If you have a gap wedge or a lob wedge, those clubs would also go in the bottom section.

    • 4

Put your putter in the top section with the woods. While the putter has little in common with these clubs, it is traditional to put it in the top section for easy access.

    • 5

Put your umbrella and ball retriever in the section with the woods. The section usually goes a bit deeper than the other compartments and will hold these optional items better than the other two.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keeping your bag organized will make your opponents think you have an organized mind and will be difficult to beat when the match is on the line.

  • A sloppy bag hurts your concentration. You need to think about the next shot, not about finding your club.
