Stainless steel pots and pans can be a cook's best friend, but when food gets burned inside or runs over and burns on the outside, even stainless steel can start to look dirty. After washing the pot, there is a simple way to remove the burn marks from the inside and outside of the pot without damaging the steel.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Powdered dishwasher detergent
  • Hot water
  • Nylon Scrubber
  1. Step 1

Mix a few teaspoons of powdered dishwashing detergent into the pot with enough water to cover the burn stains.

  2. Step 2

Place the pot on the stove and heat it to boiling. Remove from heat and allow it to sit for half an hour.

  3. Step 3

Dump out the water and scrub the burn stains with the nylon scrubber. Stains inside the pan should lift away easily.

  4. Step 4

Fill the sink to the height of the pot with very hot water and add several teaspoons of powdered dish detergent. Place the pot in the water and let it sit overnight.

  5. Step 5

In the morning, drain the sink and scrub the outside of the pot with the nylon scrubber. Rinse well inside and out, and the stains and marks should be gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • Doing this once a month helps keep your pots and pans looking like new even if they don't have burn marks.
