How to Make Orange Oil
The orange peel contains citrus essential oils which can be used as flavoring, scents for perfumes and in various household products. There are different methods for capturing orange oil. Some methods use orange peels that have been dried, while others do not. The peel might be soaked in alcohol or oil, such as olive oil, where the orange oil is infused with the liquid. Another method involves simmering water.

Combine fresh orange peels with water in a crock pot. Use 2 ounces of peels for each gallon of water.

Cover the crock pot and turn on low heat. Allow to simmer all day.

Strain the orange peels from liquid. Retain liquid and discard peels.

Store in a clean glass jar with a lid.

Yes, this recipe is not an orange essence. It might be something vaguely like an orange infused broth, but the proportion sounds way too small. Also, if you want some kind of infused oil, you wouldn't use olive oil as a base! It's got way too much of its own flavor. I haven't tried this, but you might try slow-cooking a bunch of orange peels in some canola oil for at least a half hour. I mean, stuff the peels in there. The other thing would be to try to capture the essence of the orange, which would involve extracting the oils from the peel by simmering them in, say, grain alcohol, and then reducing or evaporating the alcohol, leaving 100% real live orange essence, which would call for only a few drops in any recipe. Obviously, you can do the same with lemon, lime, other citrus fruits. -

I tried using the simmweing method to make orange oil but all I got was a liquid that smelled of orange with a small trace of trace of oil floating on the water
