How to Wax Skis
Downhill alpine skiing is an exciting, action-packed sport. Maintaining your equipment is crucial. But it is one area of preparation that many skiers overlook. One of the most important maintanence areas is waxing your skis. Waxing protects the bottoms of your skis from ice, bare spots in the snow and any rocks or sticks that you may ski over. Waxing your skis is a relatively simple process that could save you tons of money on repairs later down the road.

1
Pad the vice with cloth or foam and then gently secure the ski, bottom side up, in the vice. Make sure you have plenty of work space and that the wax you purchased was from a reputable shop.
-
2
Plug the iron in and heat it up. You do not want the steam engaged if there is that feature on your iron.

3
Unwrap the wax and begin rubbing it along the length of the ski bottom. Rub until there is a layer of wax along the entire length of the ski.
-
4
Run the heated iron along the length of the ski relatively quickly. You want the top layer of wax to melt just slightly so it smooths out, but you do not want it to melt off.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 a couple more times on the first ski. Then repeat the entire process on the other ski.
