How to Make a Yarn Pom Pom

Yarn pom poms are versatile items that can be used in many different crafting projects. Children especially enjoy creating works of art that incorporate colorful yarn pom poms.
Instead of purchasing ready-made pom poms, making your own can become a fun activity for children. When they make an assortment of yarn pom poms, they are sure to find many creative uses for these brightly-colored fluffy objects.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Skein of acrylic yarn (any color)
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Cardboard piece(optional)

1. Cut a 5-inch length of yarn and set it aside.

2. Wrap the yarn directly from the skein around two fingers of your non-dominant hand. Wrap the yarn around approximately fifty times loosely.

3. Slide the yarn from your fingers. Tie the yarn bundle tightly in the center with the short length of yarn you set aside earlier.

4. Cut all of the yarn loops so that they are even and the pom pom is a circle shape.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want a larger pom pom, wrap the yarn around three or four fingers instead of two fingers. Another method is to use a 3-by-4 inch rectangular piece of cardboard. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard loosely in the same fashion. Slip the yarn off the cardboard. Tie and finish the pom pom in the same way as above.
