A swamp cooler is an efficient way of cooling off an area. It provides a cooler environment by utilizing the evaporation of water. The swamp cooler pulls the air outside it into an area where there are water-soaked pads. The air is then cooled through evaporation and pushed out of the swamp cooler into the desired area. A swamp cooler can be used inside or outside, wherever cooler air is desired.
If you are looking to install a swamp cooler yourself, there are just a few steps to follow to ensure safety and the proper functioning of the cooler. It is not an impossible task, and you will be well rewarded by cooler air during the hotter months.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring tape Hammer Handsaw Electric screwdriver 1½-inch heavy-duty screws 1-inch-thick block wood
  1. Step 1

Determine the location for the cooler. You want to be sure the area is free and clear of constant movement and other objects so that there isn't a disturbance in the productivity of the cooler. Due to the tediousness of moving the cooler, you want to be sure that where you are going to install it is where it is going to stay. You also want to be sure the surface of the area will allow for you to secure the cooler with the heavy-duty screws so that it isn't easily moved.

  2. Step 2

Measure the cooler horizontally and vertically.

  3. Step 3

Make a platform of wood. Using a handsaw, cut the piece of block wood according to the measurements of the swamp cooler.

  4. Step 4

Using the electric screwdriver, attach the cut block wood to the surface of the area where you will be placing the cooler.

  5. Step 5

Mount the cooler onto the secured platform. Use the screws and securing equipment that came with your swamp cooler. Once you are done, be sure to check the stability of the unit.

  6. Step 6

Pour the water into the designated area of your cooler. Plug in the cooler and then turn it on to ensure it is working properly in the chosen area.
