How to Arrange a Golf Bag

The way a person arranges a golf bag is a personal preference. A person who is meticulous and calculating is likely to have a set way that he arranges his golf bag. On the other hand, a person who is carefree may have a much less structured organization of his bag. The fact is, there is no wrong or right way to arrange a golf bag. Instructions

    • 1

Place the woods into the top department of the bag. Place them with the handle side down so you can see what you are grabbing when pulling out a club. The woods are typically the longest clubs.

    • 2

Separate the irons into separate compartments. The only reason to do this is to be able to keep similar clubs next to one another to make choosing easier and quicker. Place the 4,5 and 6 irons in one compartment and the 7, 8 and 9 irons in another.

    • 3

In the bottom compartment, place the rest of the clubs you have left that would not be defined as clubs or irons. This includes the pitching wedge, the putter and the sand wedge.

    • 4

Place an umbrella in the long tube on the outside of the bag. Some bags have this tube and some do not. This tube also is sometimes used to hold the putter.

    • 5

Place tees inside one of the top pockets. It is better to keep the tees in the top because it allows the golfer to avoid bending over to choose a new tee upon arriving at each new hole.

    • 6

Place golf balls in another pocket in the bag. It does not matter which pocket the golf balls go into, but it is best to avoid putting them in the same pocket as the tees simply because they can get in the way each time when a new tee is chosen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any of these placements can be modified.

  • Not covering the heads of your clubs could expose them to the sun and rain more and cause them to more easily corrode.
