Things You'll Need:
- glass pices or glass mosaic tiles
- paint scraper or trough
- mosaic grout
- wet sponge or rag
-
Step 1
Prepare your glass. If you are using prepared glass tiles or pieces, skip this step. If you have decorative glass pieces you'd like to use, like an old vase or chipped glass, you will need to break it into pieces. The best way to do this is to wrap the glass in a towel and tap it very gently with a hammer or lightly step on it until you have pieces in the size you prefer.
-
Step 2
Prepare the surface of the item you will be applying the mosaic to. It needs to have a clean, rough surface for best results. Take rough sand paper to the surface, if it isn't already porous.
-
Step 3
Apply mosaic grout to your item's surface using the paint scraper or trough. Apply it in a layer that is about one quarter to one half inch thick.
-
Step 4
Press your glass pieces into the grout and press them in lightly. You want to leave a little bit of space in between each piece for more grout. You can make any type of pattern or design you chose, or just randomly apply the glass mosaic pieces.
-
Step 5
Slather a layer of grout over the top of your tiles making sure to get grout in the crevices between the tiles.
-
Step 6
Use a wet sponge to clean the grout from the surface of the glass. Doing this will also smooth the grout between the tiles to a nice finish. Let the grout set overnight until it is rock hard, and your glass mosaic is complete.
