Instructions

    • 1

Wait to plant your Canna Pretoria bulbs until there is no more danger of frost. The Horn Canna Farm recommends planting in climate zones 7 to 10 (from Virginia down to Mexico) at a time between mid-March and mid-April; zones 1 to 6 (Alaska to Tennessee) should be planted indoors around the same time.

    • 2

Prepare your soil so that it is moist but well drained and free of any weeds or last year's old growth. Use a small trowel or gardening fork for this. Plant in an area of your yard or garden where the bulbs will have partial to full sunlight.

    • 3

Dig small holes with your trowel in the soil that are at least 1 foot apart and about 4 inches deep.

    • 4

Place the bulbs in the holes, and pat down about 2 inches of soil over each one.

    • 5

Plant one bulb per pot if starting them inside for colder climate zones. Once the bulbs have been in the pot for about six weeks and there is no longer any danger of a frost that could harm it, remove it from the pot and plant it outside. These bulbs will also need to be taken in during the winter months.

    • 6

Water the bulbs frequently. Soaking them once a week and dampening a second time is sufficient.
