How to Burn CDs on an HP Computer

CD drives that can read discs as well as burn them have replaced floppy disk drives. People are downloading music on P2P websites, which means they're less likely to go out to music stores and purchase CDs. Internet-savvy musicians traffic their music over the Web. With music sales down in stores and downloads occurring at such a high frequency, people need to burn music to CDs to listen to albums in their cars unless they have portable MP3 players, which cost more than a set of blank CDs.

Step 1

Compile a list of songs in a folder and keep the window open in the restored position (to restore the window, click on the double squares between the "X" and the "_" in the top right corner of the screen).

Insert your blank CD in the CD burner.

If the AutoRun prompt opens, click on "Burn Audio CD." This will open Windows Media Player to the "Burn" tab. If the AutoRun prompt doesn't open, open Windows Media Player and click on the "Burn" tab.

Step 4

Click on the restored folder that contains the song list, highlight the list and drag it over to the "Burn List" on the right side of the Windows Media Player screen.

Step 5

Rearrange the songs on the Burn List so that they're in the order you want them in by clicking and dragging them up or down.

Step 6

Once the songs are in your preferred order on the Burn List, click "Start Burn." When the burn is complete, the CD will automatically eject from the CD burner.

Burning Other Files on an HP Computer

Step 1

Insert a blank CD into the CD burner.

Step 2

If AutoRun opens, click on "Burn Files to Disc." If AutoRun doesn't open, click on the "Computer" or "My Computer" icon on the desktop.

Step 3

Click on the CD in the CD burner to open it.

Step 4

Open the folder that contains the files you want to burn in a restored window.

Step 5

Highlight the files and drag them to the CD window.

Click on "Burn to Disc" and a burn wizard will open.

Step 7

Click on the "Mastered" option unless you want to format the disc before the burn, which may take a while, even on a fast HP computer.

Step 8

Name the disc in the box that says "Disc title" and click the fastest recording speed. Click "Next" to burn the disc. When the burn is complete, the disc will automatically eject from the CD burner.
