Things You'll Need:
- Wood dowel rods
- Baby clothes, blankets, bibs, etc.
- Rubber bands
- Vase
- Handsaw or jigsaw to cut dowel rods
- Optional adornments such as plastic leaves or baby toys
-
Step 1
Rolled pink baby blanket "flower"Purchase dowel rods from the local home improvement or craft store. The rods are typically less than $2 each. The rods come in multiple size diameters. Select a sturdy dowel rod, which can be either purchased in a 12-inch long segment or cut to that length. The dowel rods can be cut with a handsaw or a jigsaw. If using a handsaw, use sandpaper to remove any rough edges. Varying heights of dowel rods can also be used to add fullness to the baby clothes bouquet. Multiple small items, such as bibs or wash clothes can be added to a single dowel if desired.
-
Step 2
Roll each purchased baby clothes items into a tube-like shape, and secure with rubber bands around the middle of the fabric. Baby clothes, bibs, receiving blankets, wash clothes, or "onesies" can be used interchangeably to create a baby clothes bouquet.
-
Step 3
Push apart the fabric at the top of the baby clothing or fabric item. The fabric can be separated to make a flower shape. Secure the fabric just underneath the "petal" for stability with larger or thicker fabric.
-
Step 4
Slide the dowel rod through the bottom end of the fabric. Push the wooden rod in firmly but gently so the "flower" isn't disturbed. Repeat this step until all baby clothes items are used.
-
Step 5
Arrange the completed "flowers" in a vase. Oversized plastic baby bottles can be used instead of a traditional vase. The 3-foot tall baby bottles can be found at most baby boutiques or discount retailers for less than $10 each. Drill a hole into the top of the plastic baby bottle nipple for the dowel rods. If a plastic baby bottle is used, weight the bottom of the container with zip-lock bags filled with sand so it won't tip over.
