How to Remove or Revert Internet Explorer 7

By default, all new computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system come with the Internet Explorer 7 web browser installed. If you prefer to use a different web browser and do not want Internet Explorer on your computer, you can choose to uninstall it. If you want to upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer, you may also want to remove version 7 before completing the upgrade.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC computer running Windows XP or Vista
  1. Step 1

    Log on to your computer with an administrator account and make sure all Internet Explorer windows are closed.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Start menu and select "Control Panel."

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button on the left side of the window.

  5. Step 5

    Uncheck the box next to "Internet Explorer."

  6. Step 6

    Click the "Next" button and confirm your decision to remove the program. The uninstallation process will begin and should last no longer than five minutes.
