How to Make Gaskets

Creating your own gaskets allows you to skip searching your local hardware store for the correct gasket size and shape. An easy do-it-yourself method will allow you to make home repairs and improvements without having to spend money for a professional repairman and will help ensure your home appliances won't be leaky.

Things You'll Need

• Gasket sheet
• Pencil
• Hand punches
• Hammer
• Scissors
• Knife

Instructions

1. Cut the gasket sheet so it's large enough to cover the area of the piece you are making the gasket for.

2. Mark where you need to cut holes in the gasket sheet by holding the sheet in place, then use a pencil to mark where the holes should be.

3. Select the correct hand punch size, then place it over one of the marked hole spots on the gasket sheet. Use a hammer to punch through the material. Repeat this procedure for each of the remaining hole marks.

4. Mark the area toward the inside of the gasket sheet that you'd like to cut off, then use a knife or scissors to cut out this area.

5. Attach gasket to the piece you created it for.
