Communicate in real time to whomever you want by using instant messenger. Instant messaging allows you to connect to your friends and family just like email does but without the delay. Build up your buddy list and never lose touch with your loved ones. Instant messaging is free and is becoming the best way to communicate over the web.

    How to Set Up Instant Messaging

  1. Step 1
     

    Choose an internet communication service such as AIM, Yahoo, or MSN Messenger. AIM is recommended because it is the most popular.

  2. Step 2

    Go the AIM website and click get "screen name". Choose a screen name and a password that are both unique and personal. Register your information and create an account. Download Aim. Save the file and click run when prompted to.

  3. Step 3

    Install AIM. Sign into you account using your new screen name and password.

  4. Step 4

    Click the plus minus icon on the bottom of the buddy list to add buddies. Click the IM icon or double click on a buddy to instant message.

  5. Step 5

    Click the text that says "available" on the buddy list to set an away message or to create your own. An away message sets your availability status.

  6. Step 6

    Right click on the AIM icon on the start bar and press exit AIM to sign out. Go to AIM at the top of the buddy list tool bar and highlight exit AIM to do the same task.

Tips & Warnings
  • Download Trillian or Pidgin because they support AIM, MSN and Yahoo Messenger. Invite your friends to be a part of your buddy list.
