Large bows and flowers on headbands are making a resurgence. You can make your own bow for a headband in just a few minutes with some scraps of fabric, and pin or glue it on, depending on whether you want a permanent or more temporary look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/4 yard of fabric or less
  • Headband
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pen or pencil
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Pins
  1. Step 1

Mark out two pieces of fabric, 5x3 inches in size, using your marking tool and ruler, and cut them out.

  2. Step 2

Mark and cut out a small 3x3 inch piece.

  3. Step 3

Place your two 5x3 inch pieces with right sides together, and pin three of the sides together.

  4. Step 4

Sew the pinned sides together, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Make sure to pivot the fabric when you reach the corners, rather than sewing three different seam lines.

  5. Step 5

Trim the edge of the fabric, clipping near the corners but making sure not to cut through the seam. Flip the bag, so the right side is showing, and turn the points out.

  6. Step 6

Turn the edges of the open side inward about 1/2 inch, and pin it down. Topstitch about 1/8 of an inch from the edge.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps 3 through 6 for the 3x3 inch piece of fabric.

  8. Step 8

Wrap the 3x3 inch piece of fabric around the center of the larger piece to make the center of the bow. When the bow looks as you'd want it, pin and hand sew the back of the smaller piece to keep it in place. Cut off any loose ends.

  9. Step 9

Pin or glue the bow to your headband, using bobby pins or a glue gun.
