How to Connect an IBM Laptop to a Television
IBM laptops are portable and often very compact, making them convenient for transporting information you might want to access and share. If you want to present information on your laptop, you might want to hook it up to a television so more people can view it. There are four ways to hook up your video to a television: VGA, S-Video, composite and DVI. The setup situation is solely dependent on which laptop and television you are using.

Plug the working VGA/S-Video/composite/DVI cord into the TV's appropriate plug slot.

3
Plug the other end of the VGA/S-Video/composite/DVI cord into the back of the IBM laptop.
-
4
Turn on your laptop and wait for it to boot up completely.

Press the laptop's "Fn" button and "F8" button simultaneously. Some IBM laptops will require you to press the "F7" button instead of "F8." Check your manual to make sure. The video should now display on the screen correctly.
Tips & Warnings
Not all IBM laptops have the corresponding ports for the television you might want to connect to. Make sure that both your TV and computer are new enough to have the ports to properly connect your laptop to your TV. S-Video and composite on a laptop will use a special adapter that allows both types of connection to work in one port on the laptop. If you get an "out of range" message, the screen resolution/size is too large for the television. Consult your television's manual to properly set the size.
Do not force cords into their locations; they are keyed to fit only a certain way. Do not damage the internal pins for the monitor cord, or that cord will be unusable. Pins have to be straight to function properly.
