How to Make Homemade Constipation Cures

Homemade constipation cures can be made from many common pantry items such as orange juice, olive oil, figs, Epsom salt and flax seeds. Use any one of these homemade constipation cures to regulate your system. In addition, drinking water and walking after eating can help relieve constipation, particularly when used in conjunction with these cures.

Things You'll Need

• Flax seeds
• Coffee grinder or pepper mill
• Papaya leaves
• Honey (optional)
• Figs
• Distilled or spring water
• Epsom salt
• Olive oil
• Orange juice

Instructions

1. Grind flax seeds in a coffee grinder or spice mill. Place 1 tbsp. of the ground seeds in 1 cup juice, stir it well, and drink it up to three times per day. Flax seeds make great homemade constipation cures because they contain a large amount of fiber, which helps waste move from the bowels.

2. Place 1 tsp. dried papaya leaves in 1 cup boiling water, and allow the mixture to steep for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten it with honey if desired. Take this homemade constipation cure up to three times per day, as needed.

3. Take 5 to 10 fresh figs and dip them in distilled or spring water. Eat all of them in the morning, or shortly after waking, chewing thoroughly before swallowing. Figs contain large amounts of fiber and make great homemade constipation cures.

4. Combine 1/4 tsp. Epsom salt with 1/2 cup distilled or spring water. Drink the solution to relieve constipation. Epsom salt is believed to lubricate the intestines, making for easier bowel movements.

5. Combine 1/2 cup high-quality olive oil with 1/2 cup orange juice and stir them well. Drink no more than 1 cup of this homemade constipation cure per day. The oil and orange juice are both thought to lubricate the intestines and facilitate bowel movements.

Tips & Warnings

• Use only one of these homemade constipation cures at a time. Combining them could cause diarrhea and/or dehydration. Find one that works and stick with it. Don't leave home after taking the Epsom salt or olive oil constipation cures. You'll need to be near a bathroom when the bowels move, and being in a public place may cause you even more discomfort.
