Things You'll Need:
- Sandy soil
- Soluble 10-10-10 plant food
-
Step 1
Plant Hibiscus in sandy or loamy soil for good drainage. They can tolerate some wetness, but they don't do well with "wet feet."
-
Step 2
Place these plants in full sun for optimum growth and bloom.
-
Step 3
Maintain a pH of about 6.5 to 7.5 in the soil for best results.
-
Step 4
Cut back the stems in early spring.
-
Step 5
Surround the plant with a layer of mulch to maintain an even level of moisture in the summer.
-
Step 6
Fertilize frequently with a 10-10-10 plant food during the growing season.
-
Step 7
Use a Thuracide spray if leaf-eating caterpillars are a problem.
