How to Make Ceramic Tile Trivets

If you have recently installed ceramic tile in your home, you may find yourself with a tile or two left over after the work has been completed. It seems a shame to waste such beautiful tile and not put it to use somehow. Instead of storing it away unused, why not make a useful tile trivet with it? A trivet can be both useful and decorative. A pretty trivet on the table is an attractive spot to place a hot pot for serving a meal. Take a few moments and make a great-looking trivet today!

Things You'll Need

• 6-by-6-inch glazed ceramic tile
• Felt bumpers

Instructions

1. Place the tile onto a work surface with the underside facing up.

2. Attach a felt bumper to each of the four corners on the underside of the tile to keep the trivet from scratching the surfaces you use it on. Peel the backing off of the felt bumpers and stick them to the ceramic tile.

3. Turn the trivet over and use it on a table or countertop to protect these surfaces from hot dishes, pots or pans.

Tips & Warnings

• If you do not have any leftover ceramic tiles, try looking for discontinued ceramic tiles at a salvage store.
