If you've just made a fresh batch of pancakes or waffles, and realized you are out of pancake syrup, don't despair. If you have brown sugar, you can combine the sugar with water and simmer until it thickens and then add a little vanilla, to make delicious syrup. But, if you would like something a bit more special, try this homemade pecan syrup recipe. Instead of the vanilla, you can also use a couple tablespoons of maple syrup.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- Heavy sauce pan
- Wooden spoon
Place sugar and water in the pan over medium heat.
Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to thicken. Continue to stir. This will take about ten minutes.
Stir in the vanilla, butter and pecans. Serve warm.
