Berber carpet is very popular in homes and business settings. Because of its dense pile (carpet thickness), stains can be very noticeable once they have dried. Attending to a liquid or food spill before the stain dries is the best way to prevent permanent damage. Cleaning a Berber carpet is similar to cleaning other types of carpeting. Removing the stain before it sets is the key to maintaining beautiful carpets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dry cloth
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Vacuum
  • Carpet stain remover
  1. Step 1

Soak up excess liquid or food with a dry cloth. Cleaning stains on a Berber carpet before they set can help reduce the severity of the damage.

  2. Step 2

Apply a small amount of dishwashing detergent to the stain. Using a cloth, carefully blot the area to remove the stain. Lightly move the cloth over the stain in small circles to prevent damage to carpet fibers.

  3. Step 3

Use a carpet stain spot remover if the stain is still present. Follow the instructions on the packaging for best results.

  4. Step 4

Allow the stained area to dry. Vacuum the area to remove additional dirt.

  5. Step 5

Contact a professional carpet cleaning service that specializes in Berber carpeting if the stain is still present after the area dries. You should have berber carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year to keep them looking like new.

Tips & Warnings
  • Vacuum your Berber carpet at least once a week and inspect for stains to prevent permanent damage.
  • Never scrub a stain. This could damage carpet fibers and fade the carpet color.
