How to Make a Baby Sling From a Sheet

Babies are little bundles of joy, but all that joy does weigh a lot, and hours of holding a baby in your arms can be exhausting. Thus, there are baby carriers and slings. These work great, but store-bought slings cost a fortune when you consider that you can make one at home with just a bedsheet. Making your own baby sling is simple, so save some money and be unique.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out a queen-size sheet in a large area. Fold the sheet lengthwise once and then lengthwise again. You will have a long strip of fabric.

    • 2

Find the middle of the fabric. Place the center on the hip of the person wearing the sling. Make sure the open flap side is against the body. Take one end and cross it across the back and over the opposite shoulder. Pull the other end across the chest, toward the opposite shoulder.

    • 3

Tie the two ends in a double knot in front of the shoulder. Spread the fabric out across the shoulder blade and back. This will help ease the weight of the baby and make the sling more comfortable.

    • 4

Pull apart the two layers of the sling on the hip. Carefully put the baby's feet into the crevice. Allow the baby's weight to open the sling more and gently place the baby's body into the opening.

    • 5

The baby will rest comfortably in the sling. To take off the sling, remove the baby and then pull the sling over the head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a fun printed sheet to make your sling unique.

  • Don't use a thin or cheap sheet that is prone to ripping or tearing.
