Some of the earliest Christmas ornaments used in decorating holiday trees were fresh fruits and dried flowers. In addition, ribbons, pieces of shiny paper and foils, candles and handmade adornments added a festive touch. Today, there are thousands of store bought options to create a dazzling Christmas tree display. However, handmade ornaments are still a popular choice. One easy and festive option is creating a marbleized glass ornament.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Ribbon
  • Clear glass Christmas bulbs
  • Egg carton
  1. Step 1

Choose two or three colors of acrylic paints.

  2. Step 2

Gently remove the hanger from the end of the glass bulb.

  3. Step 3

Carefully pour one teaspoon of each paint color into the glass bulb. It does not matter the order the paint is added or how it is placed into the bulb, as it will all be mixed together to create the marbleizing effect.

  4. Step 4

Place your finger over the opening of the bulb and gently shake or swirl the paint around until the entire inside surface is covered.

  5. Step 5

Place bulb, opening side down, into an egg carton to dry. This allows the excess paint to drip out of the bulb.

  6. Step 6

Reinsert the hanger into the ornament.

  7. Step 7

Tie a decorative ribbon around the loop in the hanger and place ornament in a prominent location.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take great care when removing the hanger, as the glass could be sharp at the opening of the bulb.
  • Always supervise children when doing this project, as the glass bulbs are fragile and can easily break.
