How to install windshield wiper motors

  1. Step 1

Remove the battery cables from the vehicle's battery with a crescent wrench and socket wrench. Carefully move the cables to a safe area so that they do not get in the way.

  2. Step 2

Locate the windshield wiper motor in your vehicle engine. They are normally located on the firewall, near the back of your motor. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for the exact location of the wiper motor on your car.

  3. Step 3

Remove the electrical wires connected to the windshield wiper motor with a screwdriver and socket wrench. Notice where each wire is connected before removing it so you can remember where it goes when you are ready to reattach it.

  4. Step 4

Remove the windshield wiper motor from the firewall with a socket wrench by loosening the bolts that hold the motor in place. Clean any dust or debris from around the firewall where the wiper motor is mounted.

  5. Step 5

Attach the new windshield wiper motor to the firewall by securing it with bolts and screws that were used on the old motor. Reattach the electrical wires to the new wiper motor.

  6. Step 6

Reattach the battery cables to the battery with a socket and crescent wrench. Turn the ignition switch to "On" and test the wiper motor by turning on the windshield wipers. Once you have verified that the motor is working, turn windshield wiper "Off." Turn the ignition switch to "Off."

Tips & Warnings
  • When loosening the battery cables, do not allow the wrench to touch the opposite battery post or it will cause a short in the electrical system.
