Chips and salsa is a common household snack to keep in the kitchen, but sometimes store-bought salsa labeled as mild really is not. Making salsa at home not only assures you that it is indeed mild in flavor, but it also guarantees that the salsa is made from the freshest ingredients.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup, red onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 lime, squeezed
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt
  • Medium saucepan
  • Electric food processor
  1. Step 1

Use the electric food processor to chop the tomatoes, garlic, onion and cilantro.

  2. Step 2

Pour the tomato mixture into a medium saucepan and cook on medium heat. Add the sugar and stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved and the onions and garlic are tender.

  3. Step 3

Remove from heat and add the fresh-squeezed lime juice and salt. Blend well.

  4. Step 4

Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.

Tips & Warnings
  • The sugar added to the tomatoes helps in reducing acidity. Splenda may be used as a substitute.
