Things You'll Need:
- Measuring tape
- Rental clubs
-
Step 1
Measure the distance from your middle finger to the ground as you stand erect with your hands at your sides. The shaft of your golf clubs should equal this measurement.
-
Step 2
Take a swing using all the proper arm movements. Bend your head and look at the ball, keep your elbows close to your body and grip the golf club. Imagine a clock and lift the club to make contact with the golf ball. If you can easily make contact from a nine o'clock position, then you have the right size shaft on your club.
-
Step 3
Consider the material used in the shaft to choose the best clubs. Professionals with a strong golf swing typically prefer a stiff shaft, while those with a slower swing do better using a more flexible shaft made from graphite or light steel.
-
Step 4
Look for a grip that is comfortable and easily accommodates your hand size. Both your middle and ring fingers should barely touch if you are using the right grip size. An incorrect grip size will interfere with your hand action and ultimately affect your shots.
-
Step 5
Choose a putter more intuitively by trying it out. The feel of the putter should instill confidence and feel heavy enough for you to control the movement and follow-through and light enough to allow a smooth effortless motion in the swing.
-
Step 6
Find golf drivers with oversize club heads to provide more surface contact with the ball. Choose a titanium golf head, which is lighter and allows you to hit the ball further from the tee. The oversize golf club head provides more area on which to find that sweet spot that results in a solid hit.
