Instructions

    • 1

Set up your rod and reel. Braided line is much stronger than monofilament and will not break as easily, especially if you tie into a big fish.

    • 2

Tie off the lead weight on the end of your line. The size of the weight depends upon the condition of the water you will be fishing in. If the water is calm, a lighter weight will be needed. Faster water will require a heavier weight.

    • 3

Use two hooks for more success. If you don't have leaders, tie the hooks directly to the line about 1 foot and 2 feet above the weight. This is important, as you will be using this method to fish off the bottom rather than casting and retrieving.

    • 4

Bait your hooks with live minnows. Start at the tail and push the hook up through the body until the barb just exits near the mouth. Some people prefer to reverse this and start at the mouth. See which one works best for you.

    • 5

Cast into medium to deeper waters. Look for feeding swarms on the surface of the water. They look like tiny whirlpools. Walleye are aggressive feeders and will hit your line hard. If one hits, set the hook quickly and decisively, and then hang on for a good fight.
