Pet clippers are a key tool if you have a dog or cat that constantly needs to be groomed. If you think that your pet clippers need to be sharpened first make sure that they are properly oiled and properly adjusted, as that is often the problem when pet clippers appear like they need to be sharpened. Having your pet groomed can be pricey, so having good equipment to do it at home is a huge cost saver.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call your local pet groomer and ask them where they get their blades sharpened.

  2. Step 2

Choose a grindstone sharpening service that uses diamond sharpening tools.

  3. Step 3

If there isn't a sharpening service in your town you can send the clippers to a sharpening service such as PuebloSharpening.com.

  4. Step 4

Know the cost of the job ahead of time. The going rate is between $6 and $8 for a blade set, which includes dismantling the clippers, sharpening them and putting them back together.

  5. Step 5

If you want to do it at home visit an online clipper supply store such as Clipperparts.com or Nebraskablades.com to purchase the sharpening set for your pet clippers. But most pet groomers will tell you that a blade sharpening service is a must.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't buy one of the sharpeners listed in pet magazines because they often do not get the job done. Most groomers suggest that you get your sharpeners sent out, as you can very easily ruin them trying to sharpen them yourself.
