How to Make Latch Hook Pillows
Latch hook is an easy craft that, once learned, can create quick and fun projects. Latch hook kits are available at most craft stores, but once you have practiced the basics, you can create your own designs easily. Though latch hook is most commonly used to create rugs, you can easily use your project as the front of a soft, cozy pillow as well.

- Latch hook
- Latch hook or rug canvas
- Permanent markers
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Fabric
- Matching thread
- Needle
- Pillow stuffing

Draw your design on the latch hook canvas. It may help to mark where you want to use various colors by using permanent markers directly on the canvas. Many latch hook kits are also available with the design already marked onto the canvas, if you prefer to go this route instead.

Cut your yarn into 2- or 3-inch pieces. Longer yarn will create a thicker design. You will need one piece of yarn for each square of the canvas in colors corresponding to your design.

Using the latch hook, attach a piece of yarn to each square of the canvas. To do this, you will need to wrap a piece of yarn around the latch hook and pass the latch hook under the bottom of the square. Then, place both ends of the yarn inside the hook and pull it downwards so that the hook passes through both the square and the loop of yarn. When your design is complete, cut a piece of fabric to the same size as the latch hook canvas. Sew the fabric to the canvas along three sides.

Fill the pillow with stuffing to the desired firmness. When full, sew the remaining side closed to complete your pillow.

Tips & Warnings
To make creating the pillow shape easier, consider purchasing a pillow kit which will have the latch hook canvas already sewn onto the pillow backing.
