The rocker makeup look is sooty, smoldering and smoky--to look like a rock star, you will have to leave behind any attachments you have to clean, perfect lines in your makeup. Since the key to getting that sultry rocker glare is to put on more than just a little eyeliner, those with wallflower-type personalities may initially feel uncomfortable with all the attention they will be receiving. If you are thinking at this point that rocker eyeliner is challenging to put on yourself, it may only be because you find the fierce rock star image intimidating.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eye makeup primer
  • Eyeshadow base
  • Translucent powder
  • Highly pigmented creamy black eyeliner
  • Synthetic eyeshadow brush with a small head
  • Black powder eyeshadow
  1. Step 1

Apply an eye makeup primer on clean lids from lash line to browbone. This will help your eyeliner blend more smoothly. Once the primer absorbs, apply an eyeshadow base, also from lash line to browbone. This will help your eyeliner pop and smolder more than if you skipped the eyeshadow base. Dust translucent powder over your eyelids to set your eyeshadow base.

  2. Step 2

Work a highly pigmented black eyeliner close to your lashes on both your top and bottom lids, making sure that not even a tiny sliver of skin is showing regardless of how high up on your lids you want the product to extend. Encircle your eye with the eyeliner all the way to the inner corners. You may use a pencil, creme or gel eyeliner from a pot. Smudge the eyeliner with a synthetic eyeshadow brush with a small head to get a smoky effect. If you want even more definition, apply the eyeliner on both your top and bottom rims, also known as the eye's "waterline."

  3. Step 3

Use the eyeshadow brush with a small head to layer a black powder eyeshadow over the black eyeliner, blending away any hard lines. This is the secret to giving longevity to rocker eyeliner.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may substitute other shades in place of black, as long as they are also dark. You won't quite get the same effect, but if you want a hint of color, feel free to use hues of brown, moss, navy or eggplant.
  • Do not share your eye makeup. The makeup that goes on the waterline of your eyes should be especially clean to prevent eye infections due to the spread of bacteria. Sanitize your eyeshadow brushes after every use and sharpen your eye pencils to keep them fresh.
