How to Clean Quartz Shower Tile

Quartz is quickly beginning to rival granite and marble in its popularity for tiling showers and countertops. On top of quartz's many benefits as a stone--for instance, it's nonporous and nearly scratch- and stain-resistant--it's also a breeze to clean. Mild cleaner, water and a little elbow grease is usually all it takes to clean quartz shower tile.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft towels
  • Sponges or cleaning pads (such as Scotch)
  • Nonabrasive cleaner
  • Spray bottle of water
  1. Step 1

Wet a soft towel with warm water. Spray the quartz tiles directly with a mild nonabrasive household cleaner (or a cleaner made specifically for stone) and gently rub with the towel.

  2. Step 2

Working in sections (for example, a few square feet at a time), spray down the freshly cleaned areas with water, either from an adjustable showerhead or a spray bottle filled with water.

  3. Step 3

If you come across a tough spot--such as soap scum--gently buff with a nonabrasive sponge or cleaning pad. If the spot won't budge, wet it down with the cleaner and let it soak for 10 minutes before trying again.

  4. Step 4

Pat the shower tiles with a soft, dry towel to avoid streaks.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is not necessary (and can sometimes be damaging) to use sealants on quartz. Simply clean the quartz every 2 or 3 months to prevent staining, which is usually more of a problem in kitchens than bathrooms.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, such as products with bleach, vinegar or a strong acid or alkaline content, since these can damage the surface of quartz tiles.
