Kids love to see the colors that the sun makes when it shines through stained glass. So why not let them make their own? In this simple craft, you can make faux stained glass, using nothing more complicated than contact paper and tissue paper. Stick it on the window, and watch your child's face as the sun plays with the colors that she chose.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Safety scissors
  • Contact paper
  • Tissue paper
  1. Step 1

Draw two concentric circles on the construction paper. If necessary, trace a large bowl and a slightly smaller bowl to draw the circles.

  2. Step 2

Help your child cut along the traced lines to form a thin ring.

  3. Step 3

Carefully place the ring on the contact paper, making sure that it sticks.

  4. Step 4

Cut the tissue paper into small pieces, such as 1-inch squares.

  5. Step 5

Instruct your child to place the tissue paper into the middle of the circle.

  6. Step 6

Cut the contact paper around the ring, leaving a thick border of contact paper around the edge.

  7. Step 7

Carefully stick the faux stained glass onto the window. Watch the sun shine through the colored paper.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is best for the pieces of tissue paper to overlap slightly, but not for the layers of paper to be so thick that the sun can't shine through. Praise your child's efforts. Even older infants will enjoy placing the tissue paper on the stained glass - when supervised.
  • Contact paper sticks to itself very easily. Try to keep it flat at all times.
