Airsoft guns use compressed gas to fire small plastic BBs. Many of these guns are designed to be replicas of real guns, and some of the nicer ones are very detailed right down to the internal parts. Most of them need periodic oiling in order to function reliably.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Silicone oil
  • Newspaper
  • Lint-free rag
  1. Step 1

Purchase some silicone oil designed specifically for airsoft guns. Do not use regular gun oil, as it may damage some of the gun's plastic parts and rubber seals.

  2. Step 2

Verify that your airsoft gun is unloaded, and that the magazine or gas canister is removed.

  3. Step 3

Disassemble the gun according to the owners manual over some old newspaper. Some guns may be disassembled in more detail than others. Some may not be disassembled at all.

  4. Step 4

Apply the oil sparingly to the moving parts of the gun, and particularly to parts that rub together such as slide rails and the hammer mechanism. It is neither necessary nor desirable for the gun to be dripping with oil. A thin coating is all that is needed.

  5. Step 5

Apply oil to the gas release valve of your magazine, if your gun uses Green Gas, or to the foil puncture barrier or CO2 canisters before inserting.

  6. Step 6

Reassemble the gun according to the instructions.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is not necessary to oil the gun after every use, unless you have used the gun heavily.
  • Always treat your airsoft gun with the same respect you would a real gun. This teaches good habits and may also prevent injury. Use only silicone oil instead of gun oil.
