How to Make Fairy Crowns for Dolls

Nearly all young girls find fairies enchanting. The idea of a miniature woodland world of their own appeals to them. You can give your child a fairy world of her own by helping her create fairy crowns for her dolls. Here are five simple ideas for fairy crowns using wired curling ribbon with stars, an ivy and flower wreath, a glittery tissue paper crown, a jeweled cardboard crown, and a braided ribbon wreath. The smaller the doll, the less detail you might have, but children will find all fairy crowns magical, especially when they're handmade by someone they love.

    Things You'll Need

    • Decorative wired curling ribbon with silver stars
    • Strands of silk ivy
    • Miniature silk flowers
    • Florist's wire
    • Sheets of colored tissue paper
    • Glitter in different colors
    • Gold or silver cardboard
    • Tiny gemstones
    • Hot glue gun

Make a fairy crown for a doll out of wired curling ribbon with silver stars or other tiny detailing attached. You'll find the wired curling ribbon among gift wrap supplies in a craft store or dollar store. Look for the kind of wired ribbon that is bendable, with strength enough so you can cut it the length you need. Secure it as you would a twist tie, making it small enough to fit the doll who will wear it.

Take a small length of florist's wire to use as a fairy crown for a doll. Form it into a wreath. Wrap it with a strand of tiny silk ivy. Tuck the stems of silk flowers within the florist's wire.

Fold colorful tissue paper over several times. Cut it to make a row of tiny paper dolls that unfolds into a fairy crown. Make it into a circle to fit the doll's head and tape the ends together. Add sparkly glitter in different colors to each doll on the crown.

Make a fairy crown from thin bright ribbon braided together. Tie the strands into a bow in back, letting the ribbons hang down the doll's back.

Cut a long thin piece from gold or silver cardboard. Leaving the bottom edge flat, make peaks along the top to create the look of a crown. Add tiny sparkling gemstones you buy at the craft store.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Make matching fairy crowns in a size your child can wear along with her dolls. You can also make fairy wands to match the crowns. All crowns can be sized as needed to fit your child's favorite dolls.
