How to Hang a Mirror With No Frame

You've found the perfect mirror; there's only one problem: it doesn't have a frame. How do you hang a mirror with no frame? The solution is not a tough one: with a bit of elbow grease and some handy little fasteners called "mirror clips" that are available at home improvement centers and hardware stores. Grab some tools and roll up your sleeves, and before you know it you'll have your mirror installed like a pro.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Stud finder
  • Level
  • Mirror clips (two per 16 inches of mirror width)
  • Screwdriver
  • Locate the wall studs on the wall where you plan to install your mirror, using a stud finder and marking lightly with a pencil. Standard distance for studs is 16 inches from center to center; mark both the top and bottom of the stud where the mirror will be placed.

  • Draw a faint line where the bottom of the mirror will be, using a level to be sure it is straight. You will want you mirror located so that the center of the mirror is between two wall studs; it does not have to be exactly centered.

  • Attach a mirror clip on each stud, locating the top edge of the clip even with the line and screwing it into the stud but not tight to the wall.

  • Set the mirror on the clips and lay it flat against the wall, holding it into place.

  • Tighten the bottom clips snugly; they will now support the mirror but will not hold it to the wall, so be sure to keep a hand on it at all times.

  • Screw the top clips into place by first sliding them over the edge of the mirror and tightening the screws snugly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you purchase mirror clips designed for the weight of your mirror. If your mirror is large, have a friend help hold it in place during installation.
