How to Make Keychains With Gimp String
Never heard of gimp string? It is also called lanyard, boondoggle and several other names. You can buy it in a craft store, and you can weave it into keychains, bracelets, or other accessories. Kids and teens especially love it! This article discusses the basic stitch: the box stitch.

Lay the two strings in the shape of an "x," crossed at their centers. We will call the bottom string "A" and the top string "B."

Curl one side of String A over String B to form a loop. Hold it there.

Curl the other side of String A in the opposite direction over String B to form a loop. Hold it there as well.

Weave one side of Strand B over the closest loop and under the other loop. Pull it through.

Repeat with the other side of Strand B.

Hold two adjacent pieces of gimp in each hand and pull them to tighten the stitch.

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 to create more stitches.

When you are satisfied with the length of your gimp keychain, repeat Steps 2 through 5 one more time. Do not tighten the stitch. Then weave each strand of gimp around the loop to its left and up through the middle of the stitch. When all four strands are coming out of the center of the stitch, pull them.

Cut off the loose ends of the gimp strings. Attach the lanyard hook to the beginning of the keychain.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure you begin with a lot of gimp string. Although the two strands can be the same color, you can use two different colors for a more colorful keychain.
Do not let go of your stitches as you are weaving the gimp. Do not lose track of the order of the strands of gimp.
