Basketball is a great activity for the whole family and easy enough for everyone to partake. Having a basketball hoop and pole professionally installed can cost more than $100 for the labor alone. You can easily install a basketball backboard above your garage or on the side of your home with a few tools and the proper techniques.

    Building a Basketball Hoop

  1. Step 1

Measure 2 inches from the base of the 72-by-42-by-1 inch piece of plywood. Center the basketball hoop at 36 inches (the center of the basketball hoop backboard width of 72 inches).

  2. Step 2

Screw in the basketball hoop with the screws that came with the 18-inch basketball hoop you purchased from a local sports store.

  3. Step 3

Carry the backboard up the ladder. Have a friend measure 10 feet from the ground to the base of the backboard. Use the level to make sure the hoop is level.

  4. Step 4

Screw the corners of the backboard to the peak of the garage or side of your home.
