How to Install a Steel Roof Over Shingles

Instructions

    • 1

Position the first sheet of roof metal in a top corner of your roof. Make sure to lay the piece long ways so the ridges don't hold water and let water run off the roof instead.

    • 2

Nail down the steel roof panel with ring-shanked nails. Nail the center down in a low ridge of the panel. Space the nails every two feet. Before you nail the side down that will have a piece next to it, slide the next piece under the outer ridge of the panel you have partially nailed down. Nail this edge down now through the two panels.

    • 3

Continue this pattern until the roof is completely covered. If the final sheet or corner sheet of steel roof panel doesn't fit, you can trim it down to size with a handheld metal shear, di-grinder, or torch.

    • 4

Nail the steel roof peak runners into place at every peak of your roof. Hammer a nail in every foot on each side of the steel roof peak runner.

Tips & Warnings
