How to Make a Small Floral Topiary
By following just a few simple steps, you can create your own floral topiary to put in your outdoor garden or in your home. Decorate the ball to go along with the season or to coordinate with your decor. Floral topiaries also make lovely gifts, and if you use silk flowers and greenery, they will last for many years. For this project, we will be using silk hydrangea flowers to create our floral topiary. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large terra cotta pot

1
Start by placing some of the dry hard clay into the terra cotta pot, filling it to within 2 inches from the rim. Clay will add weight to the pot so that it won't topple over when the flowers have been added to the ball. Add the three cinnamon sticks to the center of the clay, pressing them deep down into the clay. Press the clay down lightly around the base of the cinnamon sticks so that they stand up firmly in place.

Glue the dried moss all over the foam ball, covering the ball completely using the hot glue gun. Using the wire cutters, cut off all the long stems from the hydrangea flowers and glue them one by one to the ball until the entire ball is filled with the flowers. You can leave some of the moss showing for a more realistic look.

Hot glue some moss inside the pot to cover the clay. You may also add a few hydrangea petals to the inside of the pot to look as if they have fallen from the tree.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of hot gluing the flowers to the ball, use pins to pin them into place. Then, each season, change the flowers to match the season, or you can give it a holiday theme.
Always use caution when working with hot glue guns. The glue gets extremely hot and can burn the skin and fingers.
