There are several ways to apply hair extensions. No matter what method is used, we all want the extensions to blend in with the natural hair so that it looks stylish and natural. The whole point of fake hair is to make it look as believable and real as possible. No one wants it to be evident that their hair isn't real. The trick is to coordinate the real hair with the fake.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy hair that fits your natural color and texture. To make the extensions blend in, you want the color to match your natural color as possible. Extension hair comes in a wide variety of colors these days, so it is easy to find a color that matches your own. Also, you want to match your natural texture. It is really hard to blend in curly extension hair when your hair is completely straight.

  2. Step 2

Decide on an application method. Some methods are easy to blend in than others. Depending on your method, you will need to use one of the following steps to have the hair blend in.

  3. Step 3

If using the braiding method, make sure that you braid the natural hair inside the weaving hair. You should have picked a color that is much like your own. While doing three-strand braiding, keep the natural hair as the underside section. For micro braiding, braid all the way down to where the natural hair stops. This ensures that the only hair hanging loose is the weave hair; this makes it more natural looking.

  4. Step 4

If using the weft method, leave a little hair on top that will cover the tracks. Apply the wefts to the back and sides with either glue or by sewing. Only a small section on top is needed to cover the weft and blend in with the weave hair. Apply oil sheen to this area and brush down with a boar-bristle brush. Tie the hair down with a satin scarf while sleep to further blend in.

  5. Step 5

If using the micro ring method, leave a 2-inch section across the front of the head undone. Apply the micro rings to the entire head except for this section. Once you are finished, apply moisturizer to the front section and brush down over the extension hair. You can use hair gel to slick the natural hair down also. Tie it down with a scarf to flatten out the top, natural section.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always shampoo and condition hair before applying any type of extensions. Do not stress the hair by applying extensions too tight. This can cause the hair to break off and thin.
