How to Give a Foot Massage With Hot Stones
Reflexologists believe that there is a pressure point in our feet connected to every other area in our bodies. One pressure point is for the liver, another for the spleen and so on. Therefore, a foot massage can be healing as the rest of the body reacts to the gentle pressure and warmth experienced during a foot massage. The use of warm rocks increases the heat and pressure, adding to the benefit.
Things You'll Need
- Damp towels
- At least six smooth, flat stones
- Heat source (for example, an oven)
- Baking tray
- Essential massage oil (optional)

1
Wrap your stones in damp towels and place on baking tray. Put in preheated oven on a low temperature such as 200 degrees F. Leave them for 20 to 30 minutes.
-
2
Ensure that your foot massage recipient is comfortable. Even though you will only be massaging the feet, the entire body must be relaxed and comfortable for the fullest beneficial effect. Have your recipient lie down, either on her back or front, whichever way she is most comfortable. Give her a blanket to keep her warm.

Focus on one foot at a time. Begin by gently stroking the underside of the foot with your thumb. After creating a little heat with the gentle friction, apply pressure (with your thumb) to the bottom of the heel. Apply pressure to the edges of the heel.
-
4
Take a warm stone and gently press it into the flat underside of the foot that you stroked just a moment ago. Continue to apply pressure to points in the heel with the thumb of the other hand for about a minute.
-
5
Now take a second stone and apply it to the flat bottom of the heel. Continue to hold both stones in place for five minutes. Remove the stones and gently rub where they have been so the foot does not feel cold.
-
6
Rotate the ankle while you continue to rub the underside of the foot gently. This is to ensure that the ankle is relaxed. Next, you will move to the ball of the foot and the toes.
-
7
Start under the big toe. While continuing to stroke the underside of the foot with one hand, apply pressure with your other thumb on the ball of the foot. Stroke up and down, rather like wiggling your thumb. Stroke under the big toe, then move down the line until you have stroked under the smallest toe.
-
8
Go back to the big toe, and pull gently on it. Stroke the sides of the toe gently as you pull. Go down the line and do the same with each toe.
-
9
Hold a warm rock on the ball of the foot. It should be big enough that the toes are also resting on it. Hold for five minutes. When you remove, give a gentle, quick rub to the entire foot. Wrap foot in a warm towel.
-
10
Repeat everything with the other foot. Use fresh stones that have not lost their heat.
