A career test is an assessment that gives you a good idea of what jobs you might be compatible with. A career test, or aptitude test, uses your interests, education, and life experience to match you up with a list of potentially well matched jobs. A career test is a fantastic way to encourage a brainstorming session when you are looking to choose or change careers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an aptitude test that will work for you. Online career tests are the most convenient and there are many that are completely free. Career centers, employment agencies, and libraries are also excellent for career tests and other similar resources.

  2. Step 2

Once you have started your career test, answer the interest profiler questions quickly, so as to not overanalyze the questions you are asked. This helps you answer the aptitude test more accurately because it forces you to tap into your initial reaction and gut instinct.

  3. Step 3

Be honest when answering career aptitude test questions. A job-matching test is not pass or fail. Answer the questions as they are true to you and you will end up with a list of recommended jobs that fit you well.

  4. Step 4

Take the career test on more than one occasion. This will rule out inaccurate data that fluctuates due to daily mood, etc. and give you a clear idea of what job you are best suited to pursue.

  5. Step 5

Use your career aptitude test to start doing deeper research into the recommended jobs that most interest you.
