Things You'll Need:
- Bookshelves or some kind of shelving
- Create your categories
- Time to put your books into your listed categories
-
Step 1
The first thing to be done is obtain some shelving or bookshelves. This can be as simple as a board on two cement blocks or as nice as some strong wooden bookshelves. This is determined by your financial means. The next step is deciding where your shelving is to be put because once its in place and your books are there, its difficult to move to another room or wall.
-
Step 2
Use of a notebook will give you a record of what books are in which category.Secondly, on paper, create your categories, much as a library does. If all your books are fiction create categories as to the kind of fiction you have. If most of your books are recipe books, break down the kind of recipe books you have. Write down which books are to go in what category.
-
Step 3
Next gather your books and put them in their proper categories. Make piles. Alphabetize them if you desire to do so. This step will probably take the most time, so allow yourself an afternoon perhaps to get this step completed.

Step 4
An example of built-in shelving at home.Get your shelving in place and start putting your books on the shelving. This step will take almost as much time as Step 3 does. Once your books are in place, see if any bookends are needed to keep them upright. In order to make your shelving aesthetically pleasing to the eye, lay some of your books on their sides and put some knickknacks on the shelves to break up the rows. Small statues, vases, or other objects will accomplish this. Now sit down, look at the shelves or shelving and see if its all eye-pleasing. The knickknacks can always be moved around to different places. Doing these steps will enable you to find your books easily and will assure that each book has its own place.
