1
Begin with a clean kitchen. It is easier to de-clutter if you start from a fresh slate. Make sure the dishes are put away and the table and counters are cleared off.
-
2
Find a couple empty boxes and sturdy garbage bags. Boxes will be needed for your sell/donate pile and bags work great for everything you are going to trash.

3
Start with one shelf or drawer at a time and move in a clockwise direction around your kitchen. Pull everything out and spend some time thinking about when/if you ever use it. If you decide to keep an item place it back or set it aside to move to another spot. (If it's something you haven't used in 5 years chances are you aren't going to use it now, either put it aside to donate/sell or trash it!) Be firm and do not let your emotions make the decision for you!

Don't forget the refrigerator and freezer. If you are like me you have containers of old and moldy food taking up unnecessary space, toss them! (Heck sometimes I even toss the containers.) Also make sure to clean out the door, chances are you have a couple old salad dressings or sauces taking up space there.

Take your time and don't get discouraged. You didn't collect everything in a day; chances are you won't be able to get rid of it in a day either. Spend a couple hours one weekend working on it then dedicate a few minutes each evening to continue the purging.

Good ideas for getting rid of the kitchen clutter. I like it how you don't make out like getting rid of the clutter will take 2 minutes. It takes time - but like you say, don't get discouraged. -
