How to Make Tennis Ball Puppets

How to Make Tennis Ball Puppets thumbnail
How cute are these?

Here is a great little arts and crafts project for the kids to do in class. My son's 3rd grade class set up a little city and each student had to create a product to sell. My son, being a tennis fanatic, created tennis ball puppets and the other kids loved them! Here is how to make them.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a bunch of used tennis balls. Try to find the kind with a logo written only on one side. Cut the tennis balls with a steak knife in between the seams. Put your hand on top of the tennis ball when cutting, then if the knife slips you will not get cut.

    • 2

Make the cut about 2 inches long, not quite half way through the ball. This is the mouth.

    • 3

Stab an inch-long hole in the top of the ball. This hole is for any top decorations you may want to add.

    • 4

Draw silly faces on the balls with a sharpie or marker. Test to be sure it is not the kind of ink that comes off easily. Make some smiling, some sneering.

    • 5

Add decorations to the tops of the balls.

    • 6

Make the tennis puppets talk by squeezing them!

Tips & Warnings

  • Never let the kids cut the puppets and be very careful yourself.
