Things You'll Need:
- MacBook Pro
-
Step 1
Make sure your MacBook is fully charged before you turn it on for the first time.
-
Step 2
Install the Software Updates as they become available. These updates will sometimes include improvements for battery life.
-
Step 3
Operate and store your MacBook Pro within recommended temperatures. Below 50 degrees F is too cold, and above 95 is too high. Room temperature is ideal for operation and storage.
-
Step 4
Periodically discharge your battery (once a month is adequate). Run your MacBook Pro until it puts itself to sleep. Plug it in to recharge.
-
Step 5
Keep the MacBook Pro’s screen brightness as low as you can tolerate. The brighter you keep the screen, the quicker the battery drains.
-
Step 6
Turn off the keyboard backlighting on your MacBook Pro by using the F5 key on your keyboard.
-
Step 7
Remove the battery with half of the charge left if you’re going to keep your MacBook Pro plugged in most of the time or if you're going to store it. It may be a bit of a hassle when you do go out with your MacBook, but it will extend the life of your battery by keeping it at room temperature and preventing exposure to the heat from the computer itself.
-
Step 8
Turn off Bluetooth if you’re not using it. Having Bluetooth enabled drains power even if you’re not using any bluetooth devices. Open up System Preferences, select “Bluetooth” and uncheck the check box next to “On.”
-
Step 9
Disable Airport (WiFi) if you’re not using that. In System Preferences, Click “Network” and hit the “Turn AirPort Off” button.
-
Step 10
Disconnect all peripherals you’re not using such as printers, cameras and card readers, and eject any CDs or DVDs you’re not using.
