Things You'll Need:

  • Pen and paper

    Getting started

Stay awake longer than usual. If you are single, just stay in bed with the lights dim, and light music in the background. Or the window open to let the sounds of the night in. If you are not single, hang out on the coach while the rest of the house are in their beds.

  2. Step 2

Find pen and paper. Put yourself in a position where your hand can easily write on the paper with the pen.

  3. Step 3

Write the first sentence that comes to mind. It could be a word, a phrase, a long sentence, a short sentence.
I does not have to be anything you have any specific feelings for - yet.
First time doing this? Just put down ONE word. Your brain will be able to work from that startpoint, helping you with the next step.

  4. Step 4

Write the next line. It could rhyme with the previous word - I find it most easy to make every other sentence's last word rhyme.
It does not have to rhyme. Many modern, and old, poems don't have rhymes. They still are poems.

  5. Step 5

    Continue to write.

  6. Step 6

Save your writings and poems. Some you will love and cherish, others not. But they will all be poems written by you.
